‘(é)PREUVES’ takes up residence at INSEP

Conceived by Angélique Cauchy, the photographic exhibition ‘(é)PREUVES’ will be on display at INSEP from 15 May to 15 June to raise awareness among athletes, coaches and staff at the institute about sexual violence against minors, particularly in the sporting world.

Art as a means of expression and prevention. Since deciding to speak publicly about the physical, sexual and psychological abuse she suffered as a teenager at the hands of her coach, former tennis player Angélique Cauchy has been using all the artistic means at her disposal to raise awareness among young people and adults about sexual abuse of minors, particularly in the sporting world. While the book Si un jour quelqu'un te fait du mal (If someone ever hurts you), published last year by Stock, was the first step in her journey towards speaking out, Angélique Cauchy is now giving tangible form to her fight and her commitment to child protection through a photographic exhibition entitled (é)PREUVES.

‘(é)PREUVES’ is a journey through the memories of a former elite athlete and physical education teacher, explaining the experiences of a child who was a victim of violence, taking a sensitive look at violence against minors in sport, but also informing, educating and calling for vigilance. Texts from the book ‘Si un jour quelqu'un te fait du mal’ (If someone ever hurts you), also available in audio format, and around forty photographs by Astrid di Crollalanza featuring Angélique Cauchy come together to question and reflect on the relationship between authority and performance, the role of the coach and best practices to implement. Five educational panels complete this intimate and illuminating journey, helping everyone – young people, parents, coaches and managers – to better understand the mechanisms of control and to spot the warning signs of a child who is a victim of violence.

Angélique Cauchy chose INSEP to give shape to this project that is so close to her heart. The establishment will host a preview of the exhibition for one month, from 15 May to 15 June, with a private viewing on 15 May attended by the Minister for Sport, Youth and Community Life, Marie Barsacq, and numerous representatives and leaders from the French sporting world. ‘It is both symbolic and a tremendous honour that these photos are being presented for the first time in the temple of French sport,’ confirms Cauchy, who is also president of the Rebond association. "This exhibition is an extension of the collaborative work we have been doing with INSEP for many months, which began with workshops to raise awareness about violence in sport and will come to fruition with the establishment of a working group on the role of coaches in June."
