Modern pentathlon

The national squad dedicated to helping athletes prepare for the Olympic modern pentathlon (fencing, swimming, equestrian, and combined shooting/running event) brings together the entire French national men’s and women’s senior team. Its coaching team is made up of national pentathlon trainers and specialised coaches in the individual events.

At the age of just 26, Valentin Belaud has already built a strong career – two-time individual world champion (2016 in 2019) and world and European champion in the team event in 2018, etc. – forging a place for himself as one of the greatest pentathletes in France’s history, alongside Joël Bouzou and Sébastien Deleigne, who themselves also went through the INSEP national system.

As she climbed onto the second step of the podium at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Elodie Clouvel (aged 30) earned French pentathlon its first individual Olympic medal in history. The former swimmer also won a silver medal at the European championships (2015) and the world championships in both the individual event (2016) and the mixed relay (2019).
